Punjab and Haryana High Court Orders Protection for Harbhajan Singh and Family
Court directs Punjab government to ensure safety of former cricketer amid security concerns; next hearing scheduled for May 12.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has taken a firm stance on the security of former Indian cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh, along with his family. The court’s intervention came during the hearing of a petition filed by Singh, who recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after leaving the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
A bench led by Justice Jagmohan Bansal instructed the Punjab government to ensure that no physical harm comes to Harbhajan Singh or any of his family members while the matter remains under consideration. The directive highlights the seriousness of the concerns raised regarding their safety.
In addition, the court issued a “notice of motion” to the state government, seeking its response on the issue. The matter will now be reviewed further in the next hearing, which has been scheduled for May 12.
The case has drawn attention due to Harbhajan Singh’s recent political shift and his public profile, with the court emphasizing the importance of safeguarding individuals facing potential threats.
