Petrol Near ₹400 in Pakistan, Diesel Gets Cheaper in Nepal

Pakistan is facing a sharp rise in fuel prices amid its ongoing economic crisis, while Nepal has offered relief to its citizens by cutting fuel rates.

According to the latest notification, the Pakistani government has increased petrol prices by PKR 6.51 per litre, taking the total to PKR 399.86 per litre—almost touching the PKR 400 mark. Diesel prices have seen an even steeper hike of PKR 19.39 per litre, reaching PKR 399.58 per litre.

This significant increase, especially in diesel prices, is expected to impact transportation and industrial sectors heavily, likely pushing inflation even higher. Experts attribute the surge to rising global crude oil prices and ongoing tensions in the Middle East, which have strained Pakistan’s already fragile economy.

In contrast, Nepal has reduced fuel prices, offering some relief to its citizens. The Nepal Oil Corporation announced a cut of NPR 2 per litre in petrol and NPR 12 per litre in diesel. The revised prices came into effect from midnight.

Although Nepal had also witnessed rising fuel costs over the past month, this recent reduction provides temporary relief. The price difference is particularly noticeable in border regions, where fuel in Nepal is now cheaper compared to nearby Indian areas, potentially encouraging cross-border fuel purchases.

Overall, while Pakistan grapples with rising costs and economic pressure, Nepal’s move highlights a more consumer-friendly approach in the short term.
