Supreme Court Grants Interim Bail to Congress Leader Pawan Khera in Defamation Case

The Supreme Court of India has granted anticipatory bail to Congress leader Pawan Khera in connection with a defamation case filed against him. The court, however, has attached strict conditions to the relief, ensuring that the legal process remains unaffected.

The case stems from remarks made by Khera, in which he allegedly accused the wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of holding three passports. Following these statements, a defamation complaint was lodged, prompting legal action against the Congress leader.

While granting interim protection from arrest, the apex court directed Khera to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation. He has also been instructed to appear before the police whenever summoned. In addition, the court has made it clear that Khera must not attempt to influence witnesses or tamper with evidence in any manner. These conditions are aimed at maintaining the integrity of the investigation while ensuring that the accused complies with judicial procedures.

The development marks a significant moment in the case, balancing personal liberty with legal accountability. The matter is expected to proceed further as investigations continue.
