India Sets Guinness World Record with Over 2.5 Lakh AI Responsibility Pledges
Historic achievement at India AI Impact Summit 2026 highlights citizen-led commitment to ethical AI use
India has secured a Guinness World Records title for the “Most pledges received for an AI responsibility campaign in 24 hours,” Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw announced at the India AI Impact Summit 2026. A total of 250,946 valid pledges were recorded between February 16 and 17, marking an unprecedented level of public participation. The milestone was officially verified at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, in the presence of senior government officials, industry leaders, and a Guinness World Records adjudicator. The nationwide AI Responsibility Pledge campaign, launched under the IndiaAI Mission in partnership with Intel India, aimed to promote ethical and responsible AI adoption across the country.
Hosted on the dedicated portal, the initiative encouraged citizens—particularly students—to commit to principles such as data privacy, transparency, accountability, and combating misinformation.
Participants engaged with scenario-based questions designed to deepen understanding of responsible AI practices. Upon completion, individuals received digital badges and access to AI learning resources.
Addressing the media, the Minister credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for inspiring youth engagement in ethical AI usage. He described the record as a proud moment for the nation, noting that participation vastly exceeded the initial target of 5,000 pledges.
Vaishnaw emphasized that the overwhelming response reflects rising awareness and public commitment toward building a trustworthy, inclusive, and human-centric AI ecosystem. The campaign, he added, represents a significant step in strengthening India’s role in shaping global conversations on responsible artificial intelligence.
