India Positions AI as a Force for Trust, Inclusion and Global Impact at India AI Impact Summit 2026
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for stronger trust mechanisms in artificial intelligence
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for stronger trust mechanisms in artificial intelligence, urging that digital content carry authenticity labels so citizens can clearly distinguish between real and AI-generated material. Highlighting the risks of misinformation, he stressed the need for watermarking systems and transparent source standards as AI-driven text, images, and videos become more widespread.
Emphasising responsible innovation, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of child safety in the AI ecosystem. Drawing a parallel with carefully designed school curricula, he noted that AI platforms must be child-safe and guided by families and institutions. Addressing broader public sentiment, he observed that while some perceive fear in AI, India views it as a source of opportunity and progress, supported by its talent pool, energy capacity, and policy direction.
The Prime Minister welcomed the launch of AI models and applications by three Indian companies during the summit, describing them as reflections of the creativity and capabilities of India’s youth. He said India’s contributions demonstrate the depth and diversity of solutions emerging from the country’s technology landscape. Shri Modi also highlighted India’s efforts to build a resilient technology ecosystem spanning semiconductors, chip manufacturing, and quantum computing.
He pointed to secure data centres, a robust IT backbone, and a vibrant startup environment as factors positioning India as a natural hub for affordable, scalable, and secure AI solutions. India’s diversity, demography, and democratic framework, he added, create conditions where successful AI models can achieve global relevance.
Inviting international collaboration, the Prime Minister urged global stakeholders to “Design and Develop in India, Deliver to the World, Deliver to Humanity.” The summit, themed “Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaya” (welfare for all, happiness for all), brings together global leaders, policymakers, researchers, and industry experts to explore AI’s role across the pillars of People, Planet, and Progress.
