New Delhi, November 11, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed for a two-day official visit to Bhutan, aimed at deepening India’s long-standing friendship and strategic cooperation with the Himalayan nation.

The visit marks a significant step in enhancing bilateral engagement across key sectors including defence, trade, connectivity, and cultural exchange.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will hold extensive discussions with Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay and meet His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. The talks will focus on strengthening economic and security cooperation, regional connectivity, and sustainable development partnerships under India’s “Neighbourhood First” policy.

Several MoUs and agreements are expected to be signed, covering areas such as hydropower, trade facilitation, digital infrastructure, and educational collaboration. Defence and border management cooperation will also feature prominently in the bilateral dialogue, reaffirming both nations’ commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region.

Officials accompanying the Prime Minister have indicated that discussions will also cover expansion of cross-border energy projects, which have been a cornerstone of India-Bhutan relations for decades. In addition, the two sides will explore new avenues for trade diversification and private sector investment to enhance economic resilience.

This visit comes at a crucial juncture, as India continues to reinforce its partnership with Bhutan amid evolving geopolitical dynamics in South Asia.
