India and Canada have agreed to begin negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and enhance cooperation in the civil nuclear sector, including establishing long-term uranium supply arrangements. The announcement followed a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg.

The two leaders met to take stock of progress in the India–Canada partnership and to outline the next phase of engagement. Both sides welcomed the adoption of the Australia–Canada–India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership, a trilateral mechanism aimed at boosting collaboration in critical technologies, AI, nuclear energy, and supply-chain diversification.

They noted renewed momentum in bilateral relations since their June 2025 meeting in Kananaskis during the G7 Summit, followed by the New Roadmap for Bilateral Engagement introduced by foreign ministers in October 2025.

Discussions also covered trade expansion, energy cooperation, strategic coordination in emerging technologies, and enhancing people-to-people ties. Official details regarding the discussion are expected to be released soon.
