The Indian diaspora and local communities across Eastern China's Yangtze River Delta region came together in large numbers to celebrate the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026, organizing yoga, meditation and health awareness events on an unprecedented scale across the cities of Yiwu, Keqiao, Kunshan, Taizhou and Nanjing.
Coinciding with the auspicious Dragon Boat Festival, thousands of yoga enthusiasts participated in outdoor and indoor sessions despite varying weather conditions. From Yiwu to Keqiao, Kunshan, Taizhou and Nanjing, participants embraced the ancient Indian practice, demonstrating the widespread appeal of yoga across China.
The celebrations showcased the remarkable growth of yoga's popularity since the United Nations adopted the International Day of Yoga in 2015. Organizers noted that China has emerged as one of the most enthusiastic destinations for yoga, with participation increasing steadily every year.
Participants engaged in yoga postures, meditation practices and wellness activities aimed at promoting physical fitness, mental well-being and healthy ageing. The events also served as a platform for cultural exchange, strengthening people-to-people ties between India and China.
Yoga's enduring values of mindfulness, balance and harmony with nature resonated strongly among attendees, reaffirming its universal appeal and relevance in today's fast-paced world. The celebrations reflected the spirit of this year's theme, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," emphasizing the role of yoga in fostering healthier and more balanced lifestyles for people of all ages.
