Pakistan Cuts Fuel Prices Ahead of US–Iran Talks in Islamabad
Major diesel price slash and petrol reduction announced as Pakistan prepares to host crucial diplomatic talks between global rivals.
New Delhi | April 11, 2026 LAhead of a crucial peace dialogue between the United States and Iran, Pakistan has announced a significant reduction in fuel prices. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed that Islamabad will host the high-level talks between the US and Iran on Saturday.
Just before the meeting, the government introduced a major price cut in diesel and petrol, signaling an effort to ease economic pressure on citizens and stabilize the domestic environment ahead of the diplomatic engagement.
Diesel prices in Pakistan have been reduced sharply by ₹135 per litre, bringing the cost down from ₹520 to ₹385 per litre. Petrol prices have also been lowered by ₹12 per litre.
The timing of the decision is seen as strategically significant, as Pakistan prepares to facilitate discussions between United States and Iran—two nations with longstanding geopolitical tensions.
The move is expected to provide relief to consumers and businesses while also strengthening Pakistan’s position as a mediator in the upcoming peace talks.
