Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu Reveals Secret Prostate Cancer Treatment, Says Diagnosis Was Kept Hidden During Iran Conflict
Benjamin Netanyahu discloses early-stage Prostate Cancer diagnosis kept confidential during tensions with Iran, citing national security concerns and risk of propaganda exploitation.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has revealed that he quietly underwent treatment for prostate cancer, keeping the diagnosis private for months due to rising tensions and conflict with Iran. The 76-year-old leader shared the information on Friday while releasing the results of his annual medical examination.
Netanyahu stated that he delayed publishing his yearly medical report by nearly two months because of the ongoing Iran war situation. According to him, doctors first detected signs of cancer nearly two months ago, but he chose not to disclose the condition publicly at that time.
In a statement shared on social media, Netanyahu explained that he did not want Iran to use his health condition as a propaganda tool during a sensitive geopolitical period. He said maintaining confidentiality was necessary to avoid giving political opponents or hostile nations an opportunity to exploit the matter.
The Israeli Prime Minister, who is the longest-serving leader in Israel’s history, had already undergone surgery in December 2024 for an enlarged prostate. At that time, the Prime Minister’s Office had publicly confirmed the procedure, but no mention of cancer was made.
Following recent post-surgery medical examinations, doctors reportedly discovered a malignant tumor measuring less than one centimeter in his prostate. Netanyahu said the cancer was detected early and treated successfully, and his overall health condition remains stable.
The announcement has drawn major international attention, especially given Netanyahu’s central role in Israel’s security and political decisions during a period of regional instability. Political analysts believe the disclosure may also raise questions about transparency regarding the health of world leaders during times of national crisis.
Despite the diagnosis, Netanyahu has assured the public that he remains fully capable of carrying out his responsibilities as Prime Minister and continues to lead the country during a critical phase in Middle Eastern politics.
