More Nations Endorse New Delhi Declaration on AI Impact

International backing for the New Delhi Declaration on AI Impact has continued to expand following the AI Impact Summit 2026, reinforcing the momentum for global cooperation on artificial intelligence governance. The summit, held in New Delhi on 18–19 February, concluded with the adoption of the declaration, which aims to encourage responsible development, ethical deployment, and collaborative regulation of AI technologies.

As of 21 February 2026, 88 countries and international organisations had formally endorsed the declaration. The number has now risen to 91, with Bangladesh, Costa Rica, and Guatemala joining the initiative. The addition of new signatories highlights the widening recognition of AI’s transformative influence on economies, societies, and public policy frameworks worldwide.

The declaration is regarded as a key step toward building shared principles addressing AI safety, transparency, inclusivity, and risk management. Policymakers and technology experts have increasingly stressed that cross-border cooperation is essential to maximise AI’s benefits while mitigating potential disruptions and misuse.

The growing participation reflects both developed and emerging economies’ interest in shaping global AI norms. Observers note that India’s leadership in convening the summit has positioned it as an important voice in international technology diplomacy, particularly in discussions around digital innovation and regulatory coordination.
