Pawan Khera’s Bail Plea to Be Heard in Supreme Court Today
Congress leader moves top court after Guwahati High Court rejects anticipatory bail in case linked to allegations against Assam CM’s wife
Congress leader Pawan Khera is set to appear before the Supreme Court of India today as it hears his anticipatory bail plea in a case linked to remarks made about the wife of Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Khera approached the apex court after his plea was rejected by the Gauhati High Court. The matter will be heard by a bench comprising Justices J.K. Maheshwari and Atul S. Chandurkar.
The case stems from statements made by Khera during a press conference on April 5, where he alleged that the Chief Minister’s wife, Rinki Bhuiyan Sarma, possessed multiple passports and had undisclosed foreign properties. Following these claims, a complaint was filed against him with the Guwahati Crime Branch, leading to legal proceedings under various sections.
Earlier, the Telangana High Court had granted Khera temporary transit bail for a week. However, the Supreme Court later stayed that relief and directed him to seek anticipatory bail from the Gauhati High Court.
With no relief from the lower courts, Khera has now turned to the Supreme Court as his final legal recourse, hoping for protection from arrest in the ongoing case.
