Indian Doctor Performs Robot-Assisted Surgery from China on Patient in Hyderabad

In a remarkable breakthrough in medical science and technology, an Indian urologist successfully performed a robot-assisted surgery on a patient in Hyderabad while being physically present nearly 3,000 kilometres away in Wuhan, China.

According to reports, Indian urologist Dr. Syed Mohammad Ghouse carried out the advanced procedure from Wuhan on a patient undergoing treatment in Hyderabad. The surgery was completed with the help of robotic medical technology developed in China and a high-speed 5G internet connection.

The procedure, known as ureteral reimplantation surgery, involved reconnecting the ureter — the tube that carries urine from the kidney to the bladder — back to the bladder. The operation reportedly lasted around 90 minutes, during which medical teams in Wuhan and Hyderabad maintained constant coordination.

Before the surgery began, doctors in both cities jointly reviewed the patient’s medical reports online and carefully planned the robotic arm movements. Medical staff present in Hyderabad administered anaesthesia and prepared the robotic surgical system in the operation theatre.

The robotic setup featured highly precise surgical instruments and high-definition 3D cameras, which transmitted live visuals from Hyderabad to Wuhan in real time. Dr. Ghouse operated from a control console at Tongji Hospital, remotely controlling the robotic arms throughout the procedure.

Reports stated that thanks to the 5G network, the doctor’s commands reached Hyderabad in just 200 milliseconds (0.2 seconds). This minimal delay allowed the robotic arms to replicate the surgeon’s hand movements almost instantly, ensuring precision and control despite the vast distance.

The achievement was also highlighted on social media platform X by Yu Jing, who praised the successful completion of the surgery as a major step in healthcare innovation.
