FIR Filed Against Former West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Over Alleged Remarks on Sanatan Dharma
Complaint alleges remarks on Sanatan Dharma during a 2025 Eid event in Kolkata.
An FIR has been registered against former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Siliguri over allegations of making objectionable remarks about Sanatan Dharma and Hinduism during an Eid event in Kolkata in 2025.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Siliguri Cyber Police Station over alleged controversial remarks related to Sanatan Dharma and Hinduism.
The complaint pertains to a statement allegedly made by Banerjee during an Eid programme held in Kolkata in 2025. According to the complainant, words interpreted as referring to a “dirty religion” were allegedly used, sparking controversy and accusations of hurting religious sentiments.
The complaint was filed by advocate Rinky Chatterjee Singh, who claimed that the remarks offended the religious sentiments of many people. She has urged police authorities to take legal action in the matter.
In the complaint, Singh also alleged that some Trinamool Congress leaders had previously made controversial comments regarding Hinduism. She claimed that she had attempted to file a complaint in 2025 as well, but alleged that no action was taken at the time and that she faced harassment.
As of now, Mamata Banerjee has not publicly responded to the allegations or the FIR.
