AISA-DU Protests Delhi University Exams on Eid-ul-Adha, Alleges Assault on Students

The All India Students’ Association–Delhi University (AISA-DU) on Tuesday staged a protest outside Delhi University’s Examination Branch, opposing the administration’s decision to conduct examinations on Eid-ul-Adha despite the festival being listed as a gazetted university holiday.

According to AISA-DU, the protest was met with heavy security deployment, and several students were allegedly dragged, manhandled, and assaulted while peacefully demanding the rescheduling of exams falling on the religious holiday. The student body accused the university administration of ignoring religious sensitivities and suppressing democratic dissent.

The protest comes a day after the Delhi High Court reportedly granted relief to students of the Faculty of Law regarding examinations scheduled on Eid-ul-Adha. However, AISA-DU argued that thousands of students from other departments across Delhi University still remain scheduled to appear for exams on the festival day. Speaking during the demonstration, AISA-DU Vice President Ananya criticised the administration’s handling of the issue, alleging that students seeking dignity, relief, and sensitivity on a gazetted holiday were met with force instead of dialogue.

Following the protest, a student delegation met Delhi University’s Proctor to seek intervention and demand immediate rescheduling of all examinations scheduled on Eid-ul-Adha.

According to AISA-DU, the administration maintained its position on conducting the exams.

The student organisation has condemned the alleged use of force against protesters and reiterated its demand for the immediate rescheduling of examinations across Delhi University on Eid-ul-Adha, warning that protests would continue until the decision is reconsidered.
