With both teams needing a win to qualify, the West Indies posted a competitive 195 after being put in to bat. However, India successfully chased down the target with four balls to spare and five wickets in hand. Sanju Samson played a crucial role, scoring a composed half-century under pressure to guide India home.
The victory not only sealed India’s spot in the last four but also knocked out the two-time champions West Indies from the tournament. India will now take on England in the second semi-final on March 5 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The clash is a rematch of the 2024 semi-final, adding extra excitement to the contest.
In the first semi-final, South Africa will face New Zealand on March 4 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. South Africa advanced as the top-ranked side in Group 1, maintaining an unbeaten run in the tournament so far.
England, meanwhile, topped Group 2 with three consecutive wins in the Super 8 stage. New Zealand secured their semi-final berth after results in the Sri Lanka-Pakistan match confirmed their progression.
The winners of the two semi-finals will meet in the grand final on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
