Danish Abdi and Vrushali Prasad Brave Strong Waves and Ocean Currents to Achieve Historic Feat
A couple from Bengaluru has captured widespread attention after successfully swimming across the sea from Sri Lanka to India, covering a distance of nearly 32 kilometres through challenging ocean waters.
Danish Abdi and Vrushali Prasad completed the difficult journey from Talaimannar in Sri Lanka to Dhanushkodi in Tamil Nadu, India, in 10 hours and 45 minutes.
Battling strong sea waves, changing currents, and physical exhaustion, the duo continued swimming non-stop through the open ocean to complete the remarkable challenge. Their route reportedly passed near the historic Ram Setu stretch, which holds cultural and mythological significance between India and Sri Lanka.
Open-sea swimming is considered one of the toughest endurance sports because conditions can change rapidly. Swimmers often have to deal with unpredictable weather, shifting tides, and intense fatigue during long-distance journeys. Despite these challenges, Danish and Vrushali successfully reached the Indian coast with determination and teamwork.
For safety, the couple was accompanied by a full support team, including paramedics and coast guard personnel, throughout the expedition.
After completing the swim, the couple shared their excitement on social media. In a light-hearted post, they joked that after the exhausting journey, they now wanted to sleep for 12 hours straight without any alarm.
Their achievement has received massive appreciation online, with many social media users calling the feat inspirational and extraordinary. Several people praised the couple for showcasing courage, endurance, and mental strength.
The initiative was reportedly organised with the support of Manipal Hospitals and is also being viewed as a symbolic celebration of the historical and cultural ties between India and Sri Lanka.
The achievement of Danish Abdi and Vrushali Prasad is now being celebrated as a powerful example of dedication, perseverance, and human endurance.
