Government Orders Removal of Apps Used to Remotely Disable E-Rickshaws

The Indian government has ordered the removal of two mobile applications that were allegedly being used to remotely disable e-rickshaws. Following the directive, the apps have been taken down from both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

The action comes after several videos went viral on social media over the past few days, showing individuals allegedly using Chinese-developed apps to switch off moving e-rickshaws from a distance. The videos triggered widespread concern over passenger safety and the potential misuse of such technology.

Taking note of the incident, the government directed both app marketplaces to remove the applications. Officials also said they would hold discussions with app store operators to strengthen measures against listing applications that could pose security or public safety risks.

The move is aimed at preventing the misuse of technology that could endanger commuters and disrupt public transport services. Authorities are also expected to review safeguards to ensure similar harmful applications are not made available for download in the future.
