West Bengal Elections 2026 Phase 2 LIVE: EVM Glitch, Early Violence Reported; Key Leaders Cast Votes

Voting for Phase 2 of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 is underway across 142 constituencies in seven districts, marking the final leg of a high-stakes political contest.

Early Disruptions & Clashes

Reports of an alleged EVM glitch in Bally triggered tensions during the early hours, leading to clashes and a lathi-charge by central forces. Two individuals have been arrested. In Nadia’s Chapra, a BJP polling agent claimed he was assaulted, with the party blaming workers linked to the ruling All India Trinamool Congress.

High-Profile Voting & Political Showdown

The spotlight remains on Bhabanipur, a stronghold of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee since 2011. The intense contest features key figures including Suvendu Adhikari.

Senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee was seen arriving at his polling booth to cast his vote. BJP candidate Priyanka Tibrewal was also involved in a heated exchange with polling officials in Kolkata over booth access issues.

Public Participation & Appeals

From early morning queues of voters to ISKCON monks chanting “Hare Krishna” on their way to polling booths, voter turnout appears enthusiastic. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah urged citizens to vote in record numbers, emphasizing participation of women and youth.

What’s at Stake

In the 2021 elections, the TMC dominated with 123 seats in these constituencies, while the BJP secured 18. With Phase 2 covering a major portion of South Bengal, today’s voting is expected to play a decisive role in determining whether the ruling party retains control or faces a strong challenge.
