West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026: 18.39% Voter Turnout Recorded in First Two Hours of Final Phase Polling

Kolkata, West Bengal — The second and final phase of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 witnessed a steady voter turnout as 18.39 per cent of the 3.21 crore eligible voters exercised their franchise within the first two hours of polling, according to Election Commission officials.
Polling commenced at 7:00 AM across 142 constituencies, covering key districts including Kolkata, Howrah, North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Hooghly, and Purba Bardhaman. These districts form the political and electoral heart of the state, making this phase crucial in determining the final outcome of the assembly elections.
Among all districts, Purba Bardhaman recorded the highest voter turnout by 9:00 AM at 20.86 per cent, followed closely by Hooghly with 20.16 per cent. Nadia reported 18.5 per cent polling, while North 24 Parganas registered 17.81 per cent. Kolkata Uttar saw a turnout of 17.28 per cent, South 24 Parganas recorded 17.25 per cent, and Kolkata Dakshin stood at 16.81 per cent.
Election officials stated that the polling process has remained largely peaceful so far, with only a few minor incidents reported from certain areas. Reports have been sought from the concerned officials to ensure swift action and maintain smooth conduct of the elections.
To ensure free, fair, and transparent elections, unprecedented security arrangements have been put in place across all polling booths. A total of 41,001 polling stations have been established, all of which are under webcasting surveillance to maintain strict monitoring and prevent any irregularities.
The Election Commission confirmed that a total of 3,21,73,837 voters are eligible to vote in this final phase. This includes 1,64,35,627 male voters, 1,57,37,418 female voters, and 792 third-gender voters, reflecting the scale and inclusivity of the democratic process.
Long queues of enthusiastic voters were seen outside polling booths since early morning, indicating strong public participation and high electoral engagement.
As the final phase progresses, political parties and candidates remain focused on securing every possible vote, with the results expected to shape the future political landscape of West Bengal.
