TMC Faces Growing Turmoil as MP Kakoli Ghosh, Six MLAs Attend CM Suvendu Adhikari’s Meeting Amid Mass Resignations
Political unrest deepens within Trinamool Congress as nearly 100 councillors resign and senior leaders spark speculation over internal dissent
The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) is facing mounting political turbulence following its defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, with reports of internal dissatisfaction and mass resignations intensifying concerns over the party’s future.
In a significant political development, TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar attended an administrative review meeting chaired by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday, along with six TMC MLAs. The move has triggered widespread political speculation, particularly as Kakoli recently resigned from her post as district president, fueling discussions about growing unrest within the party.
Apart from Kakoli, the meeting was attended by TMC legislators, including Anisur Rahman Biswas from Deganga, Bina Mondal from Swarupnagar, and Mohammad Abdul Matin from Haroa, along with three other MLAs from the Basirhat region.
Political observers have viewed the participation of opposition leaders in a state government administrative meeting as highly significant. However, TMC leaders present at the meeting clarified that their attendance was focused solely on development-related issues in their constituencies.
Speaking after the meeting, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari described the move as part of a new political culture in West Bengal, stating that unlike previous governments, all legislators were invited regardless of party affiliation to ensure developmental benefits reach the public.
The political crisis within TMC appears to be deepening, with nearly 100 councillors from various municipalities reportedly resigning in recent weeks. The unrest has opened opportunities for the BJP to strengthen its foothold in urban local bodies previously dominated by TMC.
Amid the ongoing turmoil, speculation is also growing around senior TMC leader and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim, with reports suggesting he may have expressed a desire to step down, though no official confirmation has emerged. Political analysts are calling this one of the most serious challenges faced by the party since its formation in 1998 under Mamata Banerjee.
