Government Agrees to NEET Paper Leak Debate in Lok Sabha; Dharmendra Pradhan Meets Speaker Om Birla
Opposition reiterates demand for Education Minister's resignation as Centre seeks all-party consensus on debate format and duration.
The government on Wednesday agreed to hold a detailed discussion on the NEET paper leak issue in the Lok Sabha, marking a significant development amid persistent demands from the Opposition.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in Parliament shortly after the Centre informed the House of its willingness to debate the controversy surrounding the alleged examination irregularities.
According to officials, the government has requested Speaker Om Birla to convene an all-party meeting to decide the rule, date, and duration of the discussion.
When the Lok Sabha reconvened at noon following an earlier adjournment, Speaker Birla invited Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju to make a statement. However, Congress leader K. C. Venugopal intervened, reiterating the Opposition's demand for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the handling of the NEET paper leak controversy.
The Opposition has consistently sought a comprehensive discussion on the issue while pressing for Pradhan's resignation, alleging serious lapses in the conduct of the examination and its aftermath.
