New Delhi | March 14 Tension was reported in the Girish Park area of Kolkata on Saturday after several people were allegedly stopped while heading toward a rally addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to eyewitnesses, some individuals, allegedly supporters of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), blocked roads and attempted to prevent people from moving toward the rally venue. Vehicles and pedestrians were reportedly halted for a short period, leading to a brief standoff in the area.
Locals present at the scene claimed that personnel from the Kolkata Police were present when the situation unfolded. However, some witnesses alleged that there was no immediate intervention during the initial moments of the incident.
Videos and photos circulating online appear to show crowds gathering on the streets and heated exchanges between groups. However, the exact sequence of events could not be independently verified at the time of reporting.
There has been no official response so far from the Trinamool Congress or the Kolkata Police regarding the allegations.
The situation later returned to normal, with police maintaining a presence in the area to prevent further disturbances. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether any complaints have been filed or if an investigation will be launched.
