Six Policemen Suspended After Gelatin Sticks Found Ahead of PM Modi’s Bengaluru Visit
Karnataka police launch investigation into alleged security lapse during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s May 10 visit
Six police personnel in Bengaluru South (Ramanagara), Karnataka, have been suspended following the discovery of gelatin sticks near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s route during his city visit on May 10. The suspension was ordered by the district’s Superintendent of Police (SP), and the officers will remain suspended until the investigation is completed.
According to officials, the incident came to light on the morning of the Prime Minister’s visit during routine security checks conducted before his arrival.
The Superintendent of Police of Bengaluru South (Ramanagara) stated that the suspicious materials were discovered while security personnel were inspecting the area ahead of the Prime Minister’s scheduled movement.
A senior police official, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Bengaluru Central Range, said that two gelatin sticks were found near a footpath during inspection, approximately three kilometres away from the main event venue where Prime Minister Modi was expected to arrive.
Authorities have clarified that the investigation into the matter is ongoing, and officials are examining all possible angles to determine whether it was a security oversight or an isolated incident.
Reacting strongly to the development, Karnataka BJP state president and MLA B. Y. Vijayendra termed the incident a serious security lapse and criticised the state’s Congress government over law and order concerns.
In a post on X, Vijayendra said that there should be zero compromise in the Prime Minister’s security, calling for a thorough and immediate investigation into the matter. He further alleged that law and order in the state had deteriorated under the current administration.
