Row Erupts Over Alleged Protocol Lapse During President Murmu’s Visit in West Bengal
BJP criticises TMC, calls incident an insult to the President’s office and tribal communities.
A political controversy has erupted in West Bengal following the visit of President Droupadi Murmu to a Santali conclave, where alleged protocol lapses have triggered sharp reactions from opposition leaders.
Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party strongly criticised the ruling All India Trinamool Congress government, accusing it of showing disrespect to the highest constitutional office of the country. According to BJP leaders, the absence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee or senior ministers during the President’s visit reflected a “blatant disregard for constitutional protocol”.
In a strong statement, the BJP said, “TMC has crossed every limit. A shocking act of political arrogance and a blatant disregard for constitutional protocol at the Santhali Conclave, where the President of India was the Chief Guest, is not merely a lapse in administration but an insult to the highest constitutional office of the Republic and a direct affront to the dignity of tribal communities.”
The party further added that the office of the President stands above partisan politics, but alleged that in West Bengal constitutional sanctity appears to be ignored. BJP leaders also accused the state government of weakening democratic values and administrative responsibility.
The controversy has intensified the political atmosphere in the state ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, with both sides exchanging strong remarks over the issue.
