CM Says Court’s Intervention Protects Religious Harmony and Social Cohesion in the State
New Delhi :Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday welcomed the Kerala High Court’s order staying the release of the film The Kerala Story 2, stating that the decision safeguards the state’s religious harmony and social unity.
In a statement issued after the court’s directive, the Chief Minister said the movie was allegedly made with the intention of damaging Kerala’s social fabric. He described the High Court’s intervention as timely and necessary.
“The order of the Honorable Kerala High Court to stop the release of the movie ‘The Kerala Story 2’, which was made with the aim of destroying the religious harmony and social cohesion of Kerala, is welcome,” Vijayan said.
He also expressed appreciation for the petitioners who challenged the film legally. “We especially appreciate the timely intervention of the petitioners who fought the legal battle against such false propaganda that defames our state,” he added.
The Chief Minister emphasized that freedom of expression cannot be used as a shield to defame an entire state or promote polarization. He stated that democratic society must resist attempts to spread hatred under the guise of artistic expression.
“In these times when conscious efforts are being made to portray Kerala as a land of terrorists, it is the responsibility of every individual to uphold the truth with wisdom,” the statement read.
Vijayan further called for unity against what he termed “reactionary forces” and reiterated the importance of preserving Kerala’s model of secularism and brotherhood. Further details regarding the High Court’s order and the next legal steps are awaited.
