Nitish Kumar, Harivansh Take Oath as Rajya Sabha Members

New Delhi | April 16, 2026 Nitish Kumar and Harivansh Narayan Singh were administered the oath of office as members of the Rajya Sabha at Parliament House by Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan.

Nitish Kumar, representing Bihar, took oath in Hindi after being elected to the Upper House. His entry into the Rajya Sabha marks a significant shift from state-level leadership to a role in national politics, following his long tenure as Bihar’s Chief Minister.

Harivansh Narayan Singh, recently nominated to the Rajya Sabha, also took oath in Hindi. A seasoned parliamentarian, he continues to play a key role in the House, where he has been serving as Deputy Chairman since 2018.

Dignitaries in Attendance

The ceremony was attended by several senior leaders, including Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, Minister of State Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Rajiv Ranjan Singh. Also present were Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, along with Members of Parliament Jairam Ramesh, Rajeev Shukla, and Sanjay Kumar Jha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated both leaders following the ceremony.
