Massive Voter Awareness Drive Reaches Over 28 Lakh People Ahead of 2026 Elections

The Election Commission of India has intensified its voter awareness campaign ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, with lakhs of citizens participating in demonstrations of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Addressing a press conference, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar highlighted the scale of the awareness initiative aimed at strengthening public confidence in the electoral process.

According to the Commission, 717 EVM Demonstration Centres (EDCs) have been established at District Election Officer (DEO), Returning Officer (RO), and Revenue Sub-Division headquarters across the five poll-bound regions. In addition, Mobile Demonstration Vans (MDVs) have covered 1,24,172 polling station locations, taking EVM demonstrations directly to voters.

The campaign has seen strong public engagement, with over 28.7 lakh people participating in EVM awareness programmes. More than 25 lakh citizens have also cast mock votes on EVMs, helping them understand the voting process before the elections.

The initiative is part of the Commission’s broader effort to ensure transparency, build trust in electronic voting systems, and encourage greater voter participation in the upcoming Assembly elections.
