High Voter Turnout in Phase 1 of West Bengal Polls

The first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections recorded an impressive voter turnout, highlighting strong public participation in the democratic process.

According to the Election Commission of India, polling started steadily in the morning, with around 19% turnout recorded by 9:00 AM. The momentum picked up quickly, reaching 41.11% by 11:00 AM.

By 1:00 PM, voter turnout had risen sharply to 62.18%, indicating active participation across constituencies. The upward trend continued through the afternoon, with turnout touching 78.77% by 3:00 PM.

Significantly, by 5:00 PM, the voter turnout surged to 89.93%, marking an exceptionally high participation rate and showcasing strong voter enthusiasm across the state.

Polling was held across 152 Assembly constituencies in 16 districts, including North Bengal, western regions, Murshidabad, Paschim Bardhaman, and Purba Medinipur. Voting began at 7:00 AM and continued till 6:00 PM under tight security and close monitoring.

Despite a few isolated incidents in some areas, the overall polling process remained largely peaceful, with authorities ensuring smooth conduct throughout the day.

The steady rise in turnout underscores the strong democratic spirit of West Bengal’s voters, as they turned out in large numbers to exercise their franchise.
