Haryana CM Naib Singh Saini Defends Pension Policy, Slams Opposition in Assembly
Chief Minister credits PM Modi’s leadership, asserts commitment to senior citizens’ welfare
Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini, addressing the state assembly, strongly defended the government’s policies concerning senior citizens and accused the opposition of spreading misinformation on pension-related issues.
Highlighting the BJP government’s approach under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Saini stated that the administration remains committed to respecting and supporting the elderly. “Our senior citizens are like our fathers. There is no question of reducing their pensions,” the Chief Minister declared during his remarks.
Emphasising welfare measures, Saini also referred to healthcare benefits for the elderly, noting that individuals above the age of 70 are eligible for free medical treatment under central government initiatives. He credited Prime Minister Modi for prioritising the welfare and dignity of older citizens.
Taking aim at the opposition, the Chief Minister alleged that false narratives were being circulated regarding pension cuts. He urged opposition leaders to reflect on their own tenure, claiming that delays of several months in pension disbursements were common in previous administrations. According to Saini, elderly beneficiaries were once forced to travel long distances to access their entitlements. In contrast, the Chief Minister asserted that the current system is more efficient and transparent. “Under our government, pension updates are delivered directly to beneficiaries through mobile messages,” he said, pointing to technological integration in public service delivery.
The statement triggered political exchanges within the assembly, as pension schemes and social welfare remain contentious issues in state politics. Government officials maintain that reforms have improved accessibility and reduced administrative delays, while opposition parties continue to question aspects of implementation.
Further debate on welfare policies is expected as assembly proceedings continue.
