Central Forces Deployed in West Bengal, CAPFs Arrive to Ensure Fair Elections
Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) have reached the state and begun deployment across multiple districts
New Delhi: In a major step towards ensuring free and fair elections in West Bengal, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) have reached the state and begun deployment across multiple districts. The Election Commission has significantly increased security presence amid concerns over electoral violence and law-and-order challenges.
Reports indicate that lakhs of CAPF personnel are being deployed, making it one of the largest security mobilisations for any state election in recent times. The forces have started area domination exercises, route marches, and coordination with local police to instill confidence among voters.
Watch VideoOfficials stated that CAPFs will be stationed at sensitive polling booths and vulnerable constituencies to prevent intimidation and ensure peaceful voting. The deployment is being carried out in phases, with hundreds of companies already positioned across key regions.
The Election Commission has also planned extended deployment even after polling, with several companies assigned to guard EVMs, strong rooms, and counting centres. This move comes in light of past incidents of post-poll violence in the state.
With heightened security arrangements and continuous monitoring, authorities aim to provide a safe environment where citizens can exercise their democratic rights without fear. The presence of central forces is expected to play a crucial role in maintaining transparency and credibility in the electoral process.
