From Melody Toffees to Muga Silk: PM Modi’s Unique Diplomatic Gifts During Foreign Tour
During his five-nation visit, PM Narendra Modi gifted cultural treasures including Assam’s Muga silk, a Shirui Lily-inspired scarf, handcrafted marble art, and Kesar mangoes to global leaders.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has returned from his five-day foreign tour after visiting the UAE, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy, carrying India’s rich cultural heritage through specially curated gifts for global leaders.
One of the standout moments came in Italy, where PM Modi gifted Melody toffees to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, drawing significant attention online. Alongside the nostalgic treat, Meloni received a rare Muga silk stole from Assam, a Shirui Lily-inspired silk stole from Manipur, and a handcrafted marble inlay box made by artisans from Agra.
The Muga silk, often called Assam’s “golden silk,” is renowned for its natural golden glow, durability, and eco-friendly production. Meanwhile, the Shirui Lily-inspired stole celebrates Manipur’s cultural identity and symbolically connects with Italy’s Renaissance-era appreciation of floral beauty.
Italian President Sergio Mattarella was presented with a finely crafted marble inlay box showcasing Agra’s celebrated Pietra Dura artistry, decorated with semi-precious stones in intricate floral patterns.
In the UAE, President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received premium Kesar mangoes, adding an agricultural touch to India’s cultural diplomacy.
