BJP Set for Major Organisational Reset: Smriti Irani, Dharmendra Pradhan, Anurag Thakur May Get Key Roles

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is preparing for a major organisational reshuffle, with party president Nitin Nabin expected to announce his new national team on August 17. Reports suggest the team could include 10 vice presidents, eight general secretaries, an organisation general secretary, two joint organisation general secretaries, 14 secretaries and a revamped media team.

Several prominent leaders, including Smriti Irani, Dharmendra Pradhan, Anurag Thakur, Biplab Deb, Tejasvi Surya, Sambit Patra, Poonam Mahajan and Raju Bista, are reportedly being considered for important organisational responsibilities.

The party is also expected to retain experienced organisational leaders, with names such as Sunil Bansal, Vinod Tawde, Arun Singh and Tarun Chugh reportedly in contention for continuity. B.L. Santosh is expected to continue as organisation general secretary.

Focus on Youth and Key States The reshuffle is likely to balance seniority with younger leadership while strengthening the BJP's regional representation. Changes in state in-charges are also expected, with Uttar Pradesh likely to receive particular attention ahead of its crucial Assembly elections.

The organisational changes come amid growing pressure following the BJP's unexpected defeat in the Bankipur Assembly bypoll. The seat had been a BJP stronghold since 1995 and was represented by Nitin Nabin for five consecutive terms. The party's defeat to Jan Suraaj chief Prashant Kishor ended its long run in the constituency.

Nabin has indicated that the party will undertake an internal review of the setback. The new team will therefore face the challenge of strengthening the grassroots organisation, improving voter outreach and preparing the BJP for upcoming high-stakes state elections.

The reshuffle could become Nitin Nabin's first major organisational test as BJP president.
