BJP Forms First Government in Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari to Take Oath as Chief Minister Today

In a historic moment for West Bengal politics, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari is set to take oath as the new Chief Minister of West Bengal today at 11 AM in Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground. This marks the first time the Bharatiya Janata Party has formed a government in the state.

The BJP registered a sweeping victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, winning 207 seats, while the ruling TMC was reduced to just 80 seats, ending its 15-year rule in the state.

The oath ceremony is expected to witness the presence of several top political leaders from across the country, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. BJP president Nitin Navin and multiple chief ministers from NDA-ruled states have also arrived in Kolkata to attend the grand event.

Security has been tightened outside Suvendu Adhikari’s residence and around Brigade Parade Ground. Kolkata Police has issued a traffic advisory and restricted heavy vehicle movement in several parts of the city ahead of the ceremony.

After arriving in Kolkata on May 8, Amit Shah formally announced Suvendu Adhikari as the BJP legislative party leader, stating that all eight proposals submitted for the CM post carried only his name.

Reacting to the historic win, BJP leaders described the moment as the beginning of a “fear-free and corruption-free Bengal.” Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan called it the “sunrise of Sonar Bangla,” while state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya termed the victory a dream fulfilled for millions of BJP workers.

The new BJP government is also expected to fast-track several central projects and schemes that were allegedly stalled during the previous TMC regime.

With the swearing-in ceremony set to begin shortly, all eyes are now on Bengal as the state enters a new political era under BJP leadership.
