Bihar Government to Provide Coal to Ration Card Holders Amid Fuel Crisis

In a significant move to address the ongoing fuel crisis, the Bihar government has announced that it will provide coal to ration card holders across the state. The decision is aimed particularly at supporting Below Poverty Line (BPL) families who are struggling due to the rising cost and limited availability of LPG cylinders.

According to official sources, the state’s Food and Consumer Protection Department has issued directives to multiple departments, including the Mines and Minerals Department and the Transport Department, to ensure the smooth supply and distribution of coal. District Magistrates (DMs) across Bihar have also been instructed to oversee the implementation process and take necessary steps to ensure that the benefit reaches eligible households.

The move comes at a time when many low-income families are finding it difficult to afford LPG for cooking, forcing the government to explore alternative fuel solutions. By providing coal, the administration aims to offer immediate relief and maintain basic household energy needs, especially in rural and economically weaker sections.

Officials have emphasized that coordination between departments will be crucial for effective execution. Logistics, transportation, and fair distribution mechanisms are being prioritized to avoid delays or irregularities.

While the decision has been welcomed by many as a practical short-term solution, some experts believe that long-term strategies for sustainable and affordable energy access will also be necessary.
