Shivanand Tiwari Questions JP Nadda Over RSS and ABVP’s Role During Emergency
Shivanand Tiwari questions JP Nadda over the RSS and ABVP’s role during the Emergency, calling for a balanced view of history.
Senior socialist leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Shivanand Tiwari has raised a series of questions following Union Minister and senior BJP leader JP Nadda’s speech on the Emergency during his visit to Patna. Nadda, who arrived in Bihar a day earlier, delivered an extensive address highlighting the significance of the 1975 Emergency and its impact on Indian democracy.
Reacting to the speech, Tiwari said that while the Emergency remains an important chapter in the country’s political history, several aspects of that period also deserve an honest discussion. He questioned JP Nadda over the alleged role of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) during the Emergency.
According to Tiwari, historical records and political debates surrounding the Emergency include references to alleged apology letters submitted by leaders associated with the RSS and ABVP. He urged the BJP leadership to address these issues while speaking about the period, arguing that a balanced account of history should include all perspectives.
The remarks have added a fresh political dimension to the ongoing debate over the Emergency, a subject that continues to evoke strong reactions across party lines. With Bihar remaining a key political battleground, the exchange between JP Nadda and Shivanand Tiwari is expected to fuel further discussions in the state's political circles.
The BJP has not yet issued an official response to Tiwari’s latest remarks.
