India Poised to Become a Space Powerhouse in the Next 20–30 Years: Scott Morrison

Former Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has praised India's rapidly expanding space technology sector, saying the country could emerge as a global space powerhouse over the next 20 to 30 years.

Speaking during an online interaction under the Indo-Mediterranean Dialogues, Morrison highlighted India's geographical advantages, industrial capabilities and growing technological base as key factors that could drive the country's space ambitions.

Morrison said that as India's space economy matures, the country is likely to see significant opportunities across technology, manufacturing and investment. He also stressed that India's democratic institutions and governance would remain important in attracting global investors.

India Could Benefit From Shifting Global Investment

Morrison also pointed to the growing movement of international capital away from China. He said India would be among the countries competing to attract this investment and could make a strong case for itself.

According to him, India's combination of a large market, industrial capacity, technological expertise and democratic institutions could strengthen its position as global companies reassess their investments in China.

Australia to Support India's Human Spaceflight Programme

Australia has also taken steps to deepen cooperation with India's space programme. In July, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced plans to establish temporary space-tracking infrastructure on the Cocos (Keeling) Islands to actively support India's first human spaceflight effort.

The announcement was made during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Australia.

The development highlights the growing strategic and technological cooperation between India and Australia, particularly in the space sector.

Morrison's remarks further underline the increasing international recognition of India's potential to become a major player in the global space economy.
