Opposition Women MPs Protest Over LPG Crisis Inside Parliament
Mahua Moitra, Dimple Yadav among leaders raising concerns over gas shortages and rising prices
Opposition women MPs staged a protest inside India’s Parliament on Friday, raising concerns over the alleged LPG shortage and rising domestic gas prices affecting households across the country.
The demonstration was led by leaders from the All India Trinamool Congress, including MP Mahua Moitra, who, along with other lawmakers, carried symbolic LPG cylinders and small stoves inside the Lok Sabha premises to highlight the difficulties faced by ordinary citizens.
Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav also voiced concerns about rural areas where LPG bookings are reportedly being delayed for several weeks. She claimed that in some regions families are waiting up to 45 days for cylinder deliveries, forcing people to stand in long queues.
Opposition leaders accused the government of failing to address the issue effectively and described the situation as a “manufactured crisis.” They argued that the government’s assurances regarding adequate supply have not reflected in the ground realities in several states.
The protest led to disruption in parliamentary proceedings, following which the session of the Lok Sabha was temporarily adjourned.
Meanwhile, Congress workers also held demonstrations outside Parliament in New Delhi, drawing attention to the alleged LPG shortage by staging symbolic cooking demonstrations on makeshift stoves.
The protest underscores growing political tensions over energy prices and supply concerns, with the opposition demanding immediate action from the government to address the issue.
