NAMASTE Scheme Awareness Programme to Be Held in Pilibhit on February 26
PPE Kits, Ayushman Cards, and Sewing Machines to Be Distributed to Sanitation Workers and Beneficiaries
Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, will host a significant welfare and awareness programme under the National Action for Mechanized Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE) Scheme on 26 February 2026 at Gandhi Prekshagrih, Gandhi Stadium. Announced by PIB Delhi, the event underscores the Government of India’s continued commitment to ensuring dignity, safety, and social security for sanitation workers.
Shri B. L. Verma, Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, will grace the occasion, highlighting the importance of the NAMASTE Scheme in improving the lives of Sewer and Septic Tank Workers (SSWs) and waste pickers. The scheme focuses on promoting mechanized sanitation practices, enhancing occupational safety, and providing sustainable livelihood opportunities.
A key feature of the programme will be the distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits to sanitation workers and waste pickers. These kits are aimed at protecting workers from occupational hazards and improving workplace safety. In addition, Ayushman Cards will be distributed, enabling beneficiaries to access healthcare benefits under the government’s flagship health protection initiative.
The programme will also emphasize economic empowerment. Beneficiaries who have successfully completed skill development training will receive sewing machines to support self-employment and income generation. This step reflects the government’s broader objective of fostering financial independence and social upliftment among marginalized communities.
Officials noted that the event is designed to raise awareness about the NAMASTE Scheme’s objectives and benefits while directly assisting eligible beneficiaries. It aligns with the government’s principle of “priority to the deprived,” ensuring targeted support for those engaged in essential yet often overlooked services.
The event is expected to draw Union and State Ministers, MLAs, senior district administration officials, and representatives from the National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation, marking an important step toward inclusive development and social justice.
