Muslim Family Converts to Hinduism in Haridwar Ceremony
Rituals at Namami Gange Ghat mark the family’s return to Sanatan Dharma amid presence of religious leaders
A Muslim family from western Uttar Pradesh has reportedly converted to Hinduism in a religious ceremony held in Haridwar. The event took place at the Namami Gange Ghat, where the family—comprising a husband, wife, and their three children—participated in traditional purification rituals under the guidance of religious organizations and sadhus.
As part of the conversion process, the family took a ceremonial dip in the Ganga, which is considered sacred in Hindu belief. This was followed by a havan-yajna and other purification rituals, symbolizing their acceptance into Sanatan Dharma.
According to reports, the head of the family, Mohammad Shehzad, has adopted the name Shankar after the conversion. His wife has also changed her name to Savitri. The ceremony was conducted in the presence of several religious figures who oversaw the rituals and formalities associated with the process.
Such conversions often draw public and political attention, especially in states like Uttar Pradesh, where debates around religious freedom and conversion laws continue to be a sensitive issue. While some view these acts as a matter of personal faith and choice, others raise concerns about the circumstances under which conversions take place.
Authorities have not yet commented on the specific details of this case. Meanwhile, the incident has sparked discussions across social and media platforms regarding religious identity and individual rights in contemporary India.
