No LPG or Fuel Shortage: Government Assures Stable Supply Amid West Asia Tensions
Centre says petrol, diesel, and LPG prices to remain unchanged; bookings hit record highs as India strengthens energy security.
The government on Monday assured that the supply of domestic LPG and transportation fuels remains stable and uninterrupted, despite rising tensions in West Asia and volatility in global energy markets.
Officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas stated during an inter-ministerial briefing that there is no shortage of LPG cylinders at retail outlets across the country. They emphasized that fuel distribution networks are functioning smoothly, with no disruption in supply chains.
In a positive sign of availability, online bookings for domestic LPG have surged, reaching nearly 99 percent on Sunday—one of the highest levels recorded so far. This indicates both strong demand and efficient delivery mechanisms in place.
The government also clarified that there is currently no plan to increase retail prices of petrol, diesel, or LPG cylinders. Authorities confirmed that fuel prices remain unchanged, providing relief to consumers amid global uncertainty.
Officials further noted that India has maintained adequate reserves of crude oil, while domestic refineries are operating at maximum capacity to ensure uninterrupted supply. However, they acknowledged that international prices of crude oil, LPG, and natural gas have seen a sharp rise due to geopolitical tensions.
According to reports, India is also taking proactive steps to strengthen its energy security. Petronet LNG Limited is planning to build additional storage tanks for liquefied natural gas (LNG) to mitigate risks associated with supply disruptions.
India currently imports nearly 50 percent of its natural gas requirements, making energy security a critical priority in the face of global instability.
