Kolkata Feels Earthquake Tremors, People Rush Out of Buildings

New Delhi : An earthquake of 4.9 magnitude was felt in Kolkata on Friday afternoon. The earthquake first struck Bangladesh, and its tremors reached the city.

As the ground shook, many people ran out of their homes, offices, and schools. Residents gathered in open areas for safety. Many also shared earthquake alert messages they received on their mobile phones. Because Kolkata has many old and closely built buildings, people stepped outside as a precaution.

Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar was speaking at an event when the tremors were felt. He briefly stopped his speech as the ground shook.

So far, there are no reports of major damage or injuries. Authorities are keeping a close watch and have asked people to stay calm.
