Dry Winds Bring Relief From Humidity Across Delhi-NCR, Punjab and Haryana
Northwest winds are reducing moisture levels across the region as the monsoon trough shifts closer to the Himalayan foothills.
After several days of hot and sticky weather, residents of Delhi-NCR, Punjab and Haryana may finally get some relief as dry northwesterly winds begin to influence the region.
According to meteorologists, the weather across northwest India is likely to remain relatively dry and more comfortable over the next two days. Winds from the northwest, blowing at speeds of more than 10 kmph, are bringing in drier air and gradually reducing humidity levels.
The shift comes as the monsoon trough has moved closer to the Himalayan foothills, resulting in a change in the rainfall pattern across northern India. Monsoon activity is currently more prominent over eastern and central parts of the country, while several areas of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi-NCR are experiencing fewer clouds and relatively clearer skies.
The INSAT-3DS satellite imagery from August 16 also highlighted this changing pattern. Strong monsoon cloud activity was visible stretching from eastern Uttar Pradesh across Bihar towards the Bay of Bengal. In contrast, much of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi-NCR appeared comparatively clear.
While daytime temperatures are not expected to fall significantly, lower humidity could make a noticeable difference to how the weather feels. The reduction in moisture is likely to ease the sticky and suffocating conditions, making outdoor weather feel comparatively more pleasant.
For residents who have been struggling with persistent humidity in recent days, the arrival of dry northwesterly winds could therefore offer a welcome, though temporary, break from the uncomfortable weather.
