Bride Allegedly Assaulted by Husband During Andaman Honeymoon Over Periods; FIR Filed in Gorakhpur
A Gorakhpur woman has accused her Delhi-based husband and in-laws of physical assault, dowry harassment and death threats. Police have registered an FIR against three people.
A shocking case of alleged domestic violence has emerged from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, where a newlywed woman has accused her husband of assaulting and allegedly attempting to strangle her during their honeymoon in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
According to the complaint, the woman from Ramgarhtal married Delhi resident Nikhil Mishra. Around a month after the wedding, the couple travelled to the Andamans for their honeymoon. The woman reportedly began experiencing severe abdominal pain and heavy bleeding after her period started.
She alleged that when she began crying in pain, her husband became angry and allegedly slapped, kicked and punched her before attempting to strangle her.
Hearing her screams, hotel staff reportedly reached the room and intervened, preventing the situation from escalating further. The woman also alleged that her husband later abused her father over the phone and threatened her family.
After returning to Delhi, she allegedly told her mother-in-law about the incident, but claimed that she continued to face harassment from her in-laws.
The woman further alleged that her family had given around ₹40 lakh in dowry, including ₹20 lakh in cash and a car, despite which she was allegedly harassed and thrown out of her marital home just 45 days after the wedding.
Following her complaint to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Ramgarhtal police registered an FIR against her husband Nikhil Mishra, mother-in-law Sanju Mishra and sister-in-law Neha Pandey. Police said an investigation is underway.
The allegations are currently part of the police investigation, and the accused have not been convicted of any wrongdoing.
