Annamalai Reveals Amit Shah Asked Him to Move to Delhi for Key Role

Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai has made a significant revelation about his political future, claiming that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had asked him to move to Delhi and take up a major organisational responsibility for more than three years.

Speaking about the offer, Annamalai said he told Shah that moving to Delhi would not be the right choice for him. Instead, he decided to remain in Tamil Nadu and continue working for the people there.

Annamalai also stressed that his political commitment to Shah’s principles would remain unchanged, whether he is inside or outside the BJP. His remarks come amid discussions over his future role in the party and his political plans in Tamil Nadu.

On the contentious Mekedatu dam project, Annamalai said he had consistently stood up for Tamil Nadu’s interests. He recalled that the Tamil Nadu BJP had opposed the project during his tenure as state party chief.

At the same time, Annamalai expressed confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing him as an honest leader. He argued that issues affecting both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu should be resolved through discussions between the two states’ chief ministers. While Bengaluru needs drinking water, he maintained that Tamil Nadu’s interests should not be compromised by construction of a new dam.

Annamalai also issued a warning over alleged corruption in the Tamil Nadu government. He said the government should be given a year to demonstrate its performance, but claimed that corruption had already resurfaced and alleged that some ministers were accepting bribes.

He further claimed to possess audio evidence and urged the Chief Minister to ensure that ministers follow the government’s stated commitment to fighting corruption.
