Akhilesh Yadav Ends Deal With I-PAC After Bengal, Tamil Nadu Poll Setbacks
Samajwadi Party changes its 2027 Uttar Pradesh election strategy as defeats of Mamata Banerjee and DMK raise questions over I-PAC’s effectiveness
A major political twist has emerged in Uttar Pradesh politics, with Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party reportedly ending its agreement with election strategy firm I-PAC ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
According to reports, the deal had been signed a few months ago on the advice of Mamata Banerjee, who shares cordial political ties with Akhilesh Yadav. I-PAC had been brought in to help shape SP’s election campaign strategy in Uttar Pradesh.
However, the political landscape changed after disappointing election results in both West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, where I-PAC was managing campaigns for the All India Trinamool Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam respectively. Reports claimed both ruling parties suffered major setbacks, leading to questions over I-PAC’s electoral strategy and effectiveness.
The situation reportedly worsened after I-PAC director Vinesh Chandel was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the West Bengal coal scam case. Sources suggest the company gradually scaled down its Bengal operations, shut offices, reduced staff, and paused several non-essential political projects.
The impact was also seen in Uttar Pradesh, where I-PAC is said to have closed its office and halted work on the SP project involving around 30–40 staff members.
Party insiders reportedly felt uncomfortable with the growing role of an external political consultancy firm, believing it reduced the importance of grassroots leaders. This internal dissatisfaction is also believed to have influenced the decision.
Despite ending ties with I-PAC, Akhilesh Yadav is expected to continue relying on local party workers and ground-level feedback for strategy building and candidate selection, as he has done in previous elections.
