Ludhiana Crackdown: 1500 Kg Expired Desi Ghee Seized in Major Health Department Raid
Raid near Gill Chowk exposes adulteration network; expired products from 2024 allegedly meant for distribution across city and other states.
In a major action against food adulteration, the health department in Ludhiana carried out a raid near Gill Chowk and seized approximately 1500 kilograms (15 quintals) of suspected desi ghee. Acting on a tip-off, officials discovered that the stock was brought from another state and was intended for distribution across various parts of the city.
During inspection, authorities found serious irregularities, including products that had already expired in 2024 but were still stored for sale. Officials stated that selling such expired food items poses a serious threat to public health.
The team collected four samples from the site, including two samples of desi ghee, one of expired skimmed milk, and one of multi-source cooking oil, all of which have been sent for laboratory testing.
Authorities have assured strict action against those involved, emphasizing that compromising public health will not be tolerated. Investigations are ongoing to identify the supply chain and those responsible for the illegal activity.
