JNU, CCRAS and Tibbia College sign MoU for collaborative research on Ayurvedic therapy

In a significant step towards strengthening collaborative research in traditional medicine, a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on March 6, 2026, at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi.

The agreement was signed among the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) through its Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI), JNU, and A & U Tibbia College & Hospital. The collaboration aims to undertake a research project titled “Effect of Seasonal Emesis (Vasanthik Vamana) on Metabolic, Inflammatory, and Microbiome Markers in Apparently Healthy Adults – An Exploratory Randomized Controlled Study.”

Focus on scientific validation of Ayurveda

The research project will investigate the scientific and health impacts of “Vasanthik Vamana,” a traditional Ayurvedic therapeutic procedure performed during the spring season. The study will assess its effects on metabolic processes, inflammatory responses and microbiome markers in apparently healthy adults.

Through this study, researchers aim to generate evidence-based insights into the effectiveness of Ayurvedic therapies using modern clinical research methods. The initiative highlights growing efforts to integrate traditional medical knowledge with contemporary scientific frameworks.

Collaboration of leading institutions

Several senior academics and researchers from the participating institutions attended the MoU signing ceremony.

From JNU, Prof. Kedar Singh, Director (R&D), along with Prof. Arun Kharat and Prof. Amal Chandra from the School of Life Sciences were present. Representatives from CCRAS–CARI included Dr. Hemanta Panigrahi, Institute In-charge, along with Dr. Babita Yadav, Dr. Shaizi Layeeq, and Dr. Renu Rani.

Strengthening integrative healthcare

The collaboration is expected to contribute to the advancement of integrative healthcare, combining traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with modern biomedical research. Experts believe that such initiatives will help strengthen the scientific evidence base of traditional therapeutic practices and promote wider acceptance of Ayurveda in public health systems.

Officials expressed optimism that the partnership would lead to meaningful outcomes and open new avenues for research in traditional medicine and preventive healthcare.
