Middle East Conflict Deepens as US Deploys Marines, Iran Intensifies Strikes

The ongoing conflict involving United States and Iran has entered a more dangerous phase, with new military deployments and expanding regional involvement.

The arrival of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit in the Middle East marks a significant escalation, providing President Donald Trump with greater military flexibility as the war enters its second month. According to U.S. Central Command, American forces have already struck over 11,000 targets and damaged or destroyed more than 150 vessels.

A major development came with an Iranian missile strike on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia. The attack injured a dozen US troops and damaged a Boeing E-3 Sentry, a key airborne system used for surveillance and battlefield coordination.

Meanwhile, the conflict has widened with the entry of Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement. The group launched missiles toward Israel, though Israeli defense systems successfully intercepted them. The Houthis have also claimed responsibility for additional attacks.

The involvement of the Houthis has raised concerns in global markets, particularly due to their past disruptions of Red Sea shipping routes—an increasingly vital alternative to the Strait of Hormuz.

In a further escalation, Iran has warned of potential attacks on US-affiliated institutions in the region. At the same time, regional tensions continue to spill over, with reports of Israeli strikes in Lebanon resulting in casualties, including journalists.
