Amid Regional Conflict, Reports Claim Dubai Building Linked to Citibank Hit During Iranian Missile Strike
Escalating Middle East tensions force banks to close branches and evacuate offices as missile threats spread across the Gulf.
Amid the intensifying conflict in the Middle East, reports circulating online claim that a building linked to Citibank in Dubai was struck and destroyed by an Iranian missile. The claim emerged after the bank reportedly decided to keep one branch operational while closing several other offices across the region due to security concerns. However, current verified reports indicate that Citibank temporarily closed most of its branches in the United Arab Emirates and shifted employees to remote work as a precaution, with only one branch in Dubai remaining operational during the closure period.
The decision came amid rising fears that Iran could target Western-linked financial institutions and economic centers across the Gulf as regional tensions escalated. Several major international banks and companies also evacuated offices in Dubai’s financial district and instructed staff to work remotely to ensure safety.
At the same time, the United Arab Emirates has been dealing with missile and drone threats connected to the broader conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. Air defense systems reportedly intercepted multiple incoming projectiles, though debris from intercepted missiles has damaged buildings in parts of Dubai, including areas along Sheikh Zayed Road.
Since the conflict escalated in late February 2026, Iran has launched hundreds of missiles and drones toward Gulf targets, including the UAE. Most have been intercepted, but falling debris and impact effects have caused damage to infrastructure and casualties in some cases.
Authorities in the UAE have increased security measures and urged residents to rely only on official sources for information, as misinformation and unverified reports continue to spread on social media during the crisis.
While the regional conflict has already led to missile interceptions and structural damage in parts of Dubai, there is no widely confirmed official report that an operational Citibank branch itself was directly destroyed by an Iranian missile. Investigations and security assessments are ongoing as tensions in the Gulf remain high.
